  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper Key ingredient for the flavor.
  • 1 large onion, sliced Adds depth and sweetness.
  • 1 large green bell pepper, sliced Adds crunch and color.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Enhances the savory notes.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Provides saltiness and umami.
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce Adds flavor richness.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Thickening agent for the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons water Mixed with cornstarch for sauce consistency.
  • to taste pinch salt Enhances flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar Balances the dish.
  • for garnish green onions, chopped Adds a fresh bite.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Toss the cut chicken into a bowl with freshly ground black pepper and a pinch of salt. Mix and let it marinate for about 15 minutes.

Cooking

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil. Once shimmering, add marinated chicken pieces and sauté until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove chicken and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add sliced onion and green bell pepper. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  • Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Return chicken to skillet and add soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Stir to coat chicken and veggies evenly.
  • In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Pour into skillet and stir continuously to thicken the sauce.
  • Cook for 5 more minutes until chicken is cooked through. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.

Serving

  • Turn off the heat and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve over rice or noodles.

Notes

For best results, use fresh spices and don't crowd the pan while cooking. Adjust sauce ingredients to preference for a saucier dish.
