  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Essential for a melt-in-your-mouth pastry.

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened Full-fat cream cheese recommended for richness.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Provides sweetness to the filling.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds a homey flavor to the filling.
  • 1 cup tart cherries, pitted and chopped Fresh or frozen cherries can be used.
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash) Gives the danishes a golden color.

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon milk For the right consistency in the glaze.
  • powdered sugar for glaze Adds sweetness and decoration.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Whisk well to mix.
  • Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles tiny pebbles.
  • In another bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Fold in the chopped tart cherries gently.
  • Roll out the pastry dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into rectangles.

Assembly

  • Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture and a sprinkle of cherries in the center of each rectangle.
  • Fold the dough over and pinch the edges to seal tightly.
  • Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool before glazing.
  • Mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth, then drizzle over the cooled danishes.

Notes

Keep ingredients cold for a flakier pastry. Don't skip the glaze for added sweetness. Feel free to experiment with different fruit fillings.
