  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is soft for best results.
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar Adds sweetness and helps achieve a light texture.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For best flavor, use pure vanilla extract.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Do not substitute with whole wheat flour.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor and balances sweetness.

Optional Decorations

  • to taste colored sugar or chocolate chips For decoration, completely optional.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour and salt, then gradually add it to the butter mixture, blending until just combined.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheets.
  • If desired, sprinkle the tops with colored sugar or press chocolate chips into the centers.
  • Bake for about 15-18 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the tray for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Make sure butter is softened for best results. These cookies freeze beautifully; store in an airtight container at room temperature.
